Guess The Right Price - Background

Guess The Right Price is an application based on "The Price is Right". With the current application in the app store, user engagement is decreasing when because money has no value in the game. Users are able to earn money but not spend it on anything. How can we keep the users engaged to notice that money in the game has value?

What is Guess The Right Price?

What is Guess The Right Price?

Mobile Application created similarly to the famous show, "The Price is Right"

Users play against other players to try and guess the price of an item. The user wins if they are spot on for the price or slightly closer to it compared to other players.

If the user runs out of money they get to play mini games to earn more for bidding.

What Is the Money's Purpose:

  • Users can change the colors of the players

  • Purchase outfits & different accessories

    • Similar to apps like "Finch" users can customize their own character in game

  • Change the color of items the user owns and can be displayed in a trophy like case.

Earning Real Prizes In Game:

  • Users can play other mini-games to win prizes in real life

  • Monthly drawings where users that earn the most money in a certain period can potentially win a gift card or an iPad etc.

  • Win money or limited theme items that can be used in the game.

    • The monthly drawings would and can include players that are within the top 5/10.

Purpose of Money/Diamonds:

  • Player is granted 5 lives when attempting to place bid amounts.

  • If we add the use of diamonds, the user can use the items to purchase more lives or purchase in-game cards such as freezing the time or speeding up the time to make the game slightly more difficult.

Multiple Choice Bidding

Purpose of Multiple Choice Options:

  • Rather than giving the option to guess the bid closer towards the amount, the user can select multiple choice answers.

  • This could be a more feasible function for younger users of the application.

  • This also ties in with Hick's Law and the user's reaction time.

How to make the user want to play more & experience the loss of their money.

  • Users won't be able to win prizes or participate in the monthly draw if they lose all five of their lives from the bid.

  • Users can only play the games to earn money during certain rounds or up until they are completely out of money.

  • If the user constantly has access to the mini game they will always have money which could essentially make the game unfair.

The main objective of this project was to re-design and understand the purpose of the Guess the Right game. We wanted to discover a way for the users to find a purpose and value of the money in the game. Users would play the game for a bit but they wouldn't fully see or find a purpose/value for the money provided in the game. The users are able to regain the money with ease and there isn't a full purpose to it. I decided to minimize the idea of using the fortune wheel to earn more money. If given more time to work on this project I would like to research more into what helps remain people focused and into the game at hand.
